[I.D.] Sneak Peek

Just a little sneak peek of my current Interior Design project. We are designing/remodeling a restaurant and were instructed to pick an ingredient that will be the deciding factor of all our designs. I chose Wakame which is a type of seaweed used in sushi, and other Japanese dishes. So obviously I'm designing a Japanese restaurant and surprise surprise, it is named WAKAME. A little info about wakame to explain my design... It's seaweed, so obviously it is grown in water, it is actually one of the top 100 most invasive plant species in the world and you see that motif in my design.

My main color is green, and in context with green I am using sustainable materials/LEED certified materials like re-purposed wood, bamboo, and LEED fabrics. Those rafters/beams curve to the shape of seaweed under water and invade onto the wall to the right. The blue wall is actually transparent 3form which is a glass like material that can have designs on it. LED lighting hid in the rafters will gradually change the color behind the 3form to different shades of green, blue, and purple.

Well that's all you get for now. The project's not due until the beginning of December so sit tight! I'm very excited about this project and can't wait to see the finished product!

  1. I love it - although I tend to avoid Japanese food because I only know it as being sushi :(
