a little custom order...

A while ago a friend asked if I'd be interested in making a custom bridal flower for her boyfriend's sister who was getting married this summer. I obviously love all things wedding and love to do custom orders so of course I said yes. This order was a big change from normal orders I've done because the bride wanted her hair piece made out of material from her grandmother and mom's wedding dresses/veils. I have heard of this before but I was beyond excited to start designing this flower because I knew it would be even more special knowing it was her "Something Old" for the wedding.

So we met at a coffee shop and she handed me a bag of her mom and grandma's fabrics to pick from.

This is NOT what I made :] This was just a flower she found at H&M that looked like the flowers that will be in her bouquet and centerpieces. She imagined her hairpiece looking something like the flowers but not so department storey :]

So I got to brainstorming and played around with some scrap fabric I had at home and started to deconstruct her fabrics she gave me. I felt a little weird taking apart and cutting into someone's wedding dress, even if that was the point.

This is what I came up with. I had such a fun time making it. I used satin fabric from her grandma's dress slip, lace from her grandma's sleeves, and the trio of flowers in the center is from her mother's veil. I can't wait to give it to her! I definitely really love custom orders now :]
